One Night With The King Review
Today, I purchased from Walmart the DVD release of One Night With The King. This retelling of the story of Esther is worth keeping in the family movie collection. It’s faithfulness to the book of Esther is pretty accurate, with some minor artistic liberties by the director and script writers. For example, the movie took the liberty to portray Haman the Agagite as the long-awaited avenger for the Amalekites, who were supposed to have been utterly destroyed by King Saul as commanded by the Lord (1 Samuel 15). While it is true that Haman was a descendent of King Agag of 1 Samuel 15, I thought it was interesting that the script writers created Haman’s motive to be tied to that event. The dating of 500 years between King Saul’s warfare against King Agag and the book of Esther is fairly correct – King Saul began his reign in 1052 B.C., and King Xerxes came to the throne in 486 B.C.
