Church Signs Are Key To Outreach?

Another LifeWay recommendation, at its best. As Southern Baptists are brooding about their declining number in baptism (see article here), what’s one possible key solution to seeing baptism numbers go up? The Church Sign!

Here’s what the article’s editor recommends:

•  Often the most effective way to promote your church’s ministries is a church message sign.
•  If you don’t have a church message sign, you need to get one.

•  If you do have one, you need to make sure the messages are very inviting.
•  Be cautious in how you use Scripture on your sign. Some churches choose to use Scripture – or messages related to certain Scriptures – with the intention of frightening people into coming to church. You run a greater risk of turning off people to your church with a “fire and brimstone” message on your sign.

•  If you are fortunate enough to have an electronic sign, then you should be making message changes frequently so that there is always something new to catch the eye of prospects.

• Another important point to remember is being brief with your sign wording. Put too many words on your sign, and folks won’t even take a look.
•  The rule of thumb is to say what you need to say in 7 to 10 words – even less if possible

Conclusion:

I’m so glad our Cooperative Program money is being used well in producing stellar articles like this that provide great insights for our churches. I’m looking forward to their next mind-boggling article: “Pews and chairs with cushion-seats make sitting easier than hardwood seats.”
