Asian Americans Dominating Ivy League Campus Ministries

Already noted is the shift of Christianity from Europe to Asia. In Europe, Christianity is dying fast. Mosques now occupy historic church buildings (see this Newsweek article and Dr. Mohler’s blog).

The same trend is occurring on American Ivy League campuses where student demographics have changed in campus ministries, like Campus Crusade for Christ and Intervarsity Fellowship, from what once was a dominantly Anglo collegiate ministry to now being dominantly Asian American. Some interesting information from this Christian Post article yesterday:

  • 4.4% of Asian Americans comprise of American population
  • 15%-40% of Asian Americans comprise of Ivy League campus’s student population

Yet, Asian American Ivy League students dominate the majority of membership in these campus ministries. In some campuses, up to 80% of the campus ministry members and participants are Asian American collegiates.
